In response to a recent surge in terrorist attacks, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, an in-camera session of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security has been scheduled for March 18. National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq convened this meeting at the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. During this session, military leadership will provide a comprehensive briefing on the prevailing security situation.
This development follows a significant terrorist incident involving the Jaffar Express train in Balochistan’s Bolan district. Militants from the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) attacked the train, resulting in the tragic loss of 26 passengers, including 18 security personnel. Security forces subsequently neutralized 33 attackers and rescued the remaining passengers.
The upcoming briefing will be attended by parliamentary leaders from both the National Assembly and the Senate, along with relevant cabinet members, to address the escalating security challenges.
